Master of Arts in Education (Early Childhood)

The programme offered by EtonHouse in association with Roehampton University builds on Froeblian principles which stress the value of play in the care and education of young children. The focus is on raising critical awareness of early childhood issues from various global perspectives by integrating practice, theory and research. The aim is to develop a deep understanding of the factors that promote the well being of young children and their families by critically examining the diverse contexts of their lives. The Programme content deliberately draws on and crosses different disciplinary and professional boundaries. Students are part of the research community and are provided an academically rigorous postgraduate programme where their professional and personal experiences are drawn upon to further develop their ability to critically consider issues in early childhood and their implications on pedagogy, policy and provisions.

The programme offers students in-depth studies in the areas of Critical Reflections on Early Childhood and Play Representations and Communication. Research methodology and enquiry also features highly. Engagement in the process of research enables students to critically question their own assumptions about the world and to evaluate how ‘knowledge’ is constructed in the field. For their dissertation, Masters students will conduct a piece of research in the field of early childhood based on their professional and personal concerns and interests.
